Churail Review – A compelling story of women seeking dignified life

Women have played a key role in our society for time immemorial. I always feel delighted when I see women reaching new heights and achieving great things in life. Making a name and place for themselves in society. I often love to watch movies and serials that are centered around a woman and how she strives to make a life on her condition.

ChurailRecently I came across a wonderful web series Churail which is a Pakistani drama web series for Zindagi Original. It’s a wonderful story of four women who are Karachi’s secret detectives whose mission it is to expose the city’s unfaithful, elite husbands. The main star cast of the show are Sarwat Gillani, Mehar Bano, Nirma Bucha, and Yasra Rizvi.

The main story

Circumstances bring these four women together and thus they come up with Halal Designs, a boutique, which is the storefront for a spying agency the women operate as they resolve to help other women pin down cheating husbands. Underneath the burqas, these women have a common goal of unveiling the sexist males.

Churail ReviewAll these women come from different backgrounds and are leading an altogether different life in this show. However, they are still connected as there were held done by patriarchy. They are let down by the men of the family are always shown their position in the house.

The show tackles a wide range of women’s issues, from domestic violence, forced child marriages, abortions, racism, prostitution, homophobia, and more. While these ladies are on fire with their spying agency, they are faced with the setback soon and the series matures into a thriller.

The overall plot is quite entertaining and shows beautifully captures the city Karachi and good and bad of it. Churail is a literal escape for us, offering a peek at places we may never be able to see otherwise.

Star cast and performance

Sarwat Gillani, Mehar Bano, Nirma Bucha, and Yasra Rizvi all have done a commendable job with their performance in the show. Sarwat Gilani Mirza is polished, charming, and in complete control of her actions. Yasra Rizvi is a delight to watch. She’s sassy, spunky and spirited. And she’s got the best lines to spout. Nimra Bucha is mesmeric and magnetizing. The rest of the cast has done a great job too. Though we are not familiar with the cast however, each character and actor hold our attention and can make a connection with the viewer. It is completely natural acting, at its very best.Churail Review Director Asim Abbasi has done a phenomenal job with the overall storyline and its treatment. Adding to the storytelling are the superb dialogues in the series and the narrative shines with amazing dialogues. The directory Asim Abbasi has yet again done a wonderful job with the dialogues being written by himself.

Summary

Churails is an exquisitely created series, set in Karachi, by far Pakistan’s most advanced city. It shows the good and bad both sides of the cities affluent lot. It’s an empowering story narrated in a highly engaging manner. I loved the overall theme wherein women are looking for the empowerment of sorts and to come out of the patriarchal set up of the society. The word Churail has a different meaning to it bit it the series shows the various aspect when a woman is labeled Churail #MainChurailHoon.
Churail ReviewThe series is a must-watch for the strong and power-packed performances of these 4 strong women and many others who are striving hard to find a place in society. They are demanding their basic human right of being able to live with dignity, and also insist on being independent, assertive, and unapologetic about their sexuality.

I have seen many such strong women-led shows on TV but nothing so as compelling as Churail. The way they take the screen space and command all the authority with the crass language and unapologetic behavior. It’s just amazing. It’s a must-watch series for all.

These Churails are hard to take your eyes off! #MainChurailHoon.
