Top 10 Reasons to prioritize your mental health

Good mental health is of utmost importance for living a balanced, happy and fulfilling life. Your mental health encompasses your overall social well-being, and impacts how you feel, behave and conduct in your day to day lives. I am sure it’s needless to say that prioritizing your mental health is the key to leading a good life. And one thing that badly needs to be done is to remove the stigma attached to mental health. The ones suffering from any kind of mental issue should be able to talk it out and open up peacefully about it.

While we say that the stigma attached to mental health needs to be cut down, let’s understand in detail why mental health is important and reasons to prioritize your mental health.

Here are top reasons to prioritize your mental health

  1. Mental health impacts physical health- There is a strong relationship between mental and physical health. The moment mental health starts getting affected the person might stop eating, overeat, lack sleep or more of sleep and likewise. And this directly has a relation with physical health as well. Deteriorating mental health also affects the overall bodies immunity levels that leads to various other diseases.
  2. Mental health connects to emotional well being- An unhealthy and disturbed mind can make the whole personality dull and upset. When we are emotionally strong and balanced it boosts our productivity and effectiveness in day to day life. And in order to be emotionally strong, we need to have our mental well being in place.
  3. Quality of life– Unhappy mind and mental health takes away the joys of life that we once enjoyed in small things. Mental illness leads a person to such a point where he or she is not able to perform simple tasks of life. And if left untreated the person might get a sense of uselessness, being unworthy, anxious, guilty and have a sense of perceived loss.
  4. Healthy and happy relationships- Mental health is imperative to be able to function happily in our relationships. A disturbed mind often leads to the person not treating the loved ones well, being passive-aggressiveness, being hostile, or are unable to participate in social activities. Overall, this impacts relationships with close ones, and even professionally.reasons to prioritize your mental healthreasons to prioritize your mental health
  5. Impacts children- If a parent is mentally unhealthy it directly impacts the health of the children. When children are raised in such a hostile environment, they also turn hostile and upset about most of the things in life. In order to raise healthy kids it’s imperative, we as parents are mentally stable and healthy.
  6. Mental health and professional life– Professional life requires a balanced individual with a strong focus on his goals and plans in life. And a disturbed mind cannot give 100% to the work and overall productivity and financial stability also get impacted. To ensure good work performance and financial wellbeing, it is important that we do the right things for mental health

While many people suffer from some of the other forms of mental stress and illness. The intensity may vary from person to person. Some may be able to overcome the problems after talking to either family or friends or even taking medical help. But most people live with this mental stress for years and do not seek medical help due to the stigma attached to it. And this is why mental health awareness and reasons to prioritize your mental health.

Do you think Senior citizens mental health is important too?

If you have anyone in the family or in a friend circle who is suffering from some kind of mental stress or is disturbed for a long time it’s important to support that person. To convince him or her to seek medical advice and try to do things to help the overall mental well-being.reasons to prioritize your mental health

Agree with all the reasons Rakhi. Indeed, our mental health and physical health has a strong co-relation. specially with pandemic, we need to take extra efforts to keep ourselves calm and composed. few minutes of meditation or even a simple journal writing can help a lot in reducing negative emotions and can offer lots of benefits for our mental health.

So true when you said it would effect children. They would see you suffer and would get said and worried. As this situations is too much for them to even understand. They just know the fact that you are not happy, you are not smiling.

Your ten reasons to prioritize mental health makes a lot of sense to me. Due to the pandemic, human interaction has become minimum and most of us are spending maximum time at home. This can aggravate the situation even further. I feel mental health issues should not be ignored and we should not hesitate to seek medical advice if necessary.

Perfectly said. Mental health very much impacts one’s social and personal outlook and the one suffering should talk it out and family and friends should hear it without any bias.

Mental health is really important and it is not prioritized most of the times. I am so happy that Olympian Simone Biles listened to her body and thought about her mental wellness first than thinking about what coaches will say!
