Facts about Feminine Hygiene Every Woman Should Know

If you want to look beautiful, it’s not enough just to put on some makeup and dress according to the latest fashion trends. You also must take care of your personal hygiene. Not only will that give you an aura of freshness, but it will also help you stay healthy and battle infections. We also know that talking and sharing about the vagina is still a taboo. Although there has been a gradual change in the mindset of people and our surroundings. However, still, there are women who refrain from discussing this common problem which needs to be addressed. So, women, no matter the age, pay attention to this feminine hygiene guide that will help you always look and feel clean and fresh.

Feminine hygiene

Start with proper cleaning

Even though your vagina is “self-cleaning”, you still need to help it out a little. The best way to properly clean your private parts is to use water and gently remove all potential dirt. You can use cleansers if you want, but make sure they are mild. Avoid products that contain perfumes in order to prevent irritation. Your best choice is hypoallergenic and pH-balanced cleansers. Also, avoid over-cleaning the area. Too much soap can disrupt the normal growth of bacteria and cause infections. Additionally, opt for showers instead of baths anytime you can. Bath water is full of dirt and bacteria that they have easy access to your genitalia, which increases the chance of infections.

The best way to wipe

After using the toilet, always wipe front to back. Otherwise, you’re increasing the chance of bacteria from your anal region moving to your vagina and causing urinary infections. After bathing and showering, wipe the same way. Also, make sure to wash your hands before using the toilet. Your hands are exposed to many bacteria, and washing them before wiping can prevent passing germs from your hands to your genitalia.

Feminine hygiene

Hygiene during menstruation for feminine hygiene

If you want to stay clean, odorless and healthy during that time of the month, make sure to change your sanitary pads and tampons frequently. Don’t use the same pad or tampon for more than eight hours in order to prevent bacterial growth and foul odor. Avoid using perfumed products during this time as well, because your reproductive tracts can clean the area on their own.

Post-sex care feminine hygiene

Post-sex care is quite important for overall health and hygiene. Bodily fluids, lubricants, and residue from the protection can cause odors and infections. Therefore, it’s important to gently wash your genital area with warm water and hypoallergenic soap after you’re done. To make this process easier, install a detachable showerhead.  They come in many shapes and sizes and can be found in bathroom stores together with many other useful bathroom supplies. Of course, to prevent more serious infections and diseases, use protection every time you have sex.

Avoid using loofahs and washcloths

Loofahs and washcloths retain many bacteria in them unless they are thoroughly washed after every use. Still, they can be unsanitary to use on the genital area, so they are best avoided. If you really want to use them, make sure to have one washcloth or loofah designated for that purpose only, and wash it regularly.

Avoid wearing tight clothes

It’s always advisable that women wear breathable innerwear, made of cotton fabric. Tight inners and synthetic fabrics can reduce the air circulation causing sweat, which puts you at a higher risk of developing a vaginal infection.

Using good intimate wash for feminine hygiene

Vagina usually keeps itself naturally clean by maintaining the optimum PH level. Normally the PH level should be around 3.8 to 4.5 which gets drastically altered with the use of harsh cleansers and soaps which can damage the vagina in long run causing constant infections. It’s advisable to use mild cleanser and soaps to clean the vagina. You can also use a good intimate wash which helps in maintaining the PH level and also gives a feeling of freshness. VWash is very good option for day to care and helps in maintaining perfect PH levels.

What about shaving?

Shaving is probably the most popular way to remove hair from your intimate area, and there are many myths concerning it. Some women claim that your hair will grow faster and thicker if you shave, but that’s not true. However, pay attention to the razor orientation. It’s better to shave in the direction of the hair growth to prevent the creation of razor bumps. Use a lubricating shave gel to prevent cuts and once you’re done, place a cool compress to prevent irritation and swelling. Even though shaving is relatively safe if you do it right, it can cause spreading of any existing warts, so it’s best to use one razor for the area with warts and another for the rest of the body. You could try using Gilette Venus Razors for women for the safe shave.

Feminine hygiene

When it comes to feminine hygiene, it’s important for women of all ages to be very meticulous and consistent with maintaining the cleanliness of their private parts. In order to stay healthy and fresh, make sure to follow these feminine hygiene tips every day. And, of course, don’t be lazy to make regular visits to your gynecologist!

Needless to say, instill the habit of cleanliness in your kids from an early age.

Well, undeniably genital hygiene is one of the most important things that a woman must pay attention to which surprisingly most women ignore, let alone talk about it. Thankfully, women in my family and my friends have always been very open about it and that’s the reason I pass good information to fellow ladies.
It’s good that you discussed this issue here. However, I do have a question – I read in my biology lessons that pubic hair are actually prevent bacteria from entering the vagina and help maintain the right temperature for the good health of that area. The same was confirmed by my gynaecologist who asked me to retain the hair and trim them, if I’m so concerned about keeping the area clean. I think, you should research a bit on this and add to your piece in case you find it useful. 🙂
