Top 5 Career Options for Women after Motherhood

Becoming a mother changes the whole life of a woman. It can be overwhelming for several reasons. Firstly, the physical changes- the birth of a baby followed by exhaustion and secondly the emotional changes the woman has to go through due to the raging hormones. To make things worse, many women have jobs to return to or face the tough challenge to give up their careers due to their babies.

Being a mother myself, I took the hard decision of taking a career break for 3 years to look after my kids (older 8 yrs and younger on 3yrs old now). When I decided to get back to my career, I found myself confused about what to do. I kept wondering if I should return back to the career I was in before pregnancy or try something new. Many women go through the same situation. It is quite natural as after becoming a mother, priorities change overnight. Motherhood changes the perspective and outlook of their careers. Today in this post I am highlighting various career options for women after motherhood.

Career Options for Women after Motherhood

Are you a mother looking out for a job that provides you with the perfect work-life balance? Yes, there are plenty of career options that are mom-friendly and won’t keep you away from your kids for too long. These career options not only allow you the freedom to work and be independent, but also give you the flexibility to spend time with your kids.

It is natural for mothers to be detail-oriented, and this skill can be perfectly used to develop a strong career as well. Mothers can opt to become market research analysts who are involved in helping marketing firms figure what is important to a company based on market research and data. These jobs can also be home-based that give women the flexibility to earn as well as be at home with their kids.

Fitness trainers
Health and fitness is the new mantra for the modern generation. Staying in shape and helping others lose weight and stay fit is a fast-developing career. Women on maternity breaks can enrol in fitness courses and become part-time fitness trainers. It offers good pay as well as a flexible schedule, making it an attractive job for mothers.

Elementary school teacher
If you enjoy being around kids, this career option is the right one for you. Being a school teacher allows you the flexibility of working the same hours as your kid’s school timings. You will get the regular summer and winter vacations off plus a whole lot of other benefits.

Content Writer
Mothers who have a creative streak can consider writing as a good career option after motherhood. Writing help you determine your own schedule and working hours. You can write as much or as little as you want yet maintaining the flexibility of working and staying financially independent. Additionally, it also helps you reach out to the world by sharing your experiences as a mother. Content writers are paid handsomely and it is a good career option for new mothers.

Become an entrepreneur
Becoming an entrepreneur is every person’s wish. You may be surprised to know that it is a lot easier to become an entrepreneur after motherhood. Motherhood gives you a break to think and do something that you have always desired. Mothers can start small business ventures and grow them over time. Becoming an entrepreneur helps mothers earn, stay independent, and follow their dreams.
Nevertheless, mothers can also return back to their regular jobs if their organizations are ready to provide them with the flexibility of schedule and work hours. Today, mothers don’t have to worry about resuming their careers in a hurry as there are multiple career options that help women stay ahead in the race. While the career options for women after motherhood are immense, you just have to thoughtfully enter into one that is suitable for your family and kids. It’s important that the dynamics of family and especially the motherly care doesn’t go for a toss as it leads to other kinds of guilts and stress in we women.
There have been various things that I have myself tried and tested on a freelance basis since the birth of my 1st child and have succeeded to quite an extent. These are some really good options for women after beoming a parent as it gives flexibility. However, I feel that with various governing policies undergoing changes, women can also opt for many other professions. The most important important thing is having the family support.

Happy to read your post today. It reminded me of the right choice I made after my first child was born. Happy to be my daughters first teacher and a teacher to many more children too.

I know a lot of women who ended up taking a sabbatical for taking care of their children and ended up becoming successful writers or freelancers. Returning to job is not the only option you see.

When I was living in a non-English speaking country like China, there were very few options for me to work. Volunteering at an American school is what I chose and it made me so happy working with kids. Best 2 years in my professional life.

I voluntarily chose parenthood over my professional life but I did feel a pinch everytime I saw women and girls going to work. But being a content writer and freelancer has made me very happy and kept me busy like I want to be.
