Tips to have fun filled and happy Eco-Friendly Holi- Save environment

With Holi just around the corner, I am sure we all are yet again excited to immerse ourselves in the bright Holi colors and hog on to yummy sweets and have great fun with the loved ones.  Holi is one of the traditional festivals of India which is played with a lot of gusto and zest. But this year let’s do something different and skip the traditional way of celebrating Holi-water balloons, toxic colors, wastage of water and so much more that takes a toll on our environment. Let’s celebrate Eco-Friendly Holi for a safe and healthy environment. Eco-Friendly HoliHere is my post I am urging and sharing few tips to celebrate the festival of colors in a green and more eco-friendly way.

  • Make your Holi colors– Most of the colors available in the markets are made using harmful chemicals that cause a lot of harm to your skin and even to the environment around you. Instead, you can go green and make your own holi colors. You could use the varied colors of flowers available around. For example, you could use rose, hibiscus, marigold, tesu (Palash), m beetroot, and others. All you need to do is grind the follower and add with any flour at home and viola your color is ready to play a safe and eco-friendly holi.Eco-Friendly Holi
  • Playing flower Holi- Revamp your Holi quotient this year and play it with the beautiful flowers. If you are unable to make Holi colors at home play this year with flowers. It also helps in avoiding water wastage that we do by removing the Holi colors from our skin.
    Eco-Friendly Holi
  • Mindful dumping of waste- If you are planning to play Holi with flowers this year you could mindfully dump the flower waste for composting that can benefit the mother earth and good use of the flowers.

  • Avoid water balloons- Water balloons can pose a huge risk if played with. It can hit in the wrong places and can leave permanent damage to eyesight and much more. Aside from this, they are made up of rubber and plastic which poses risk for the environment. It causes water wastage and also after the use gets dumped on the ground only most of the time or in dustbins that go to landfills that are already brimming with a lot of plastic. • Decorate your house with upcycled products- Instead of going for balloons and plastic decoration you could upcycle the existing things in the house and decorate. You could make colorful hangings with the waste CDs sticking colorful and shining papers. Just get a stack of old CDs and paint your way. You can also paste an old piece of cloth over the CDs. And that’s set, the colorful coasters will come in handy in your Holi bash.
  • Eco-friendly Holi bonfire- You could use garden waste like dry leaves and sticks along with other waste papers. Also make good use of scraps like waste boxes, cow-dung, coconut waste, etc. instead of wood from trees for the Holi bonfire. This will save precious trees from getting cut for it to take care of our environment and also celebrate eco-friendly Holi
  • Avoid the use of bad colors- There are always some miscreants who would be using oils paints, petrol, mud, and other chemicals for Holi. One should totally avoid these and play eco-friendly Holi with safe colors.

Hope these tips and suggestions would be of great use to you all. Do celebrate this festival of color with full-on zest and enthusiasm while keeping the environment safe and happy.

Happy Holi to All!!!

Mindful holi is so important for us as well as others and our environment. With the pandemic not going away soon, it’s best to play mindful holi at home with our loved ones and keep social distancing as much as possible.

Oh wow you make Holi colours. You are one amazing woman. I mean I don’t even bother to go play Holi unless my friends are going along. Forget making colours. Ever since I bought colours, it’s been lying around waiting for the pandemic to end. Hahaha.
